“This colored ink illustration is thematically quite different from my usual work. Even if the illustration has a melancholy feel to it, the lighting and color scheme offer a bittersweet hopefulness. The setting was inspired by some of my favorite video game locations, and I think that too adds a level of storytelling to the piece.

To really make the bright areas stand out, I used light gray ink for the lines in sunlit areas. The lighting ended up quite harsh, but I think it adds drama to the composition.”
